August 14, 1843 Code Violators Under Scrutiny ; Report Slated Today; Bowl Group Convenes CHICAGO, Aug. 13 -Oip)- The cases of 39 colleges and universi ties suspected of being too gener ous in financial aid to their ath letes were under final review to day by a committee of the National Collegiate' Athletic association. The NCAA's constitutional com pliance committee members said they would wind up meir iwo day study of the cases with a pub lic report tomorrow. Their rec ommendations will be made tohe full NCAA meeting in New York "Jan. 13-14. The schools are listed as possi ble violators of the NCAA san ity code governing such financial help. The names of the schools "have not been dL-closed. Meanwhile, the NCAA's nine man 1949 Bowl game committee opened two dayi ; of closed ses sions. That group is expected to recommend elimination of some lesser bowl games. The total now number around SOT The group also is expected to require responsi ble management for all such con tents. Curtice Wins Futurity Run CHICAGO. Aug. 13--Curtice. a fast finishing son of Roman, to day carried the colors of Mrs. Emil Denemark, Chicago, to a sur prising three quarters of a length victory over the Calumet farm's Re-Armed in the $72,750 Wash ington Park futurity. It was the first , victory for the $13,700 yearling ' purchase, al though the colt had never been out of the money in six previous races. It also was the most im portant event ever won by the Chicago sportswoman, who col lected $57,850 first prize. The crowd of 22,362 sent Cur tice to the post at odds of 8 to 1 .and he paid $18.00, $4.80 and $3.40. Re-Armed returned $2.80 and $2.60. Wisconsin Boy, the sec ond choice, paid $3.80 to show. Panclio-Mulloy Title Go Set NEWPORT, R. Mulloy. outmaneuvered Arthur Larsen of San Francisco on a slippery court and defeated him 6-4, 5-7. 6-1, 6-0. Larsen. usually a sure fire retriever, was unable even to chase some of Mulloy's volleys.
