Retiring from Stay ton Firm STAYTON Jacob Spaniol soon will retire from the firm of Jacob Spaniol and Son, after 47 years in the plumbing and sheet metal business. Because of the amount of contracted business . on hand, he will probably be working from the shop until the first of the year. A native of Alsace-Lorraine, Spaniol was brought to the United States and to Minnesota by his parents when he was three years old. He came to Stayton some time in the 1890's and started in Business in 1902, In the same building which, housed the , Jd. Streff and company,' furniture anrt hardware store. Streff was his father-in-law. About 1913, a cement block building was built on Ida street and it has since housed the busi ness. Eugene Spaniol, who has prac tically grown up in the business. Joined his father In the firm In 1940. Recently articles of incorpora tion for a new firm were filed with Eugene and Ruth Spaniol, Jerry and Dora Marking, and Ro bert and Colleen O'Connor form ing a new firm to be known as Spaniol and Company, plumbing and heating. Jerry Marking has been in "the plumbing shop about 10 years. During the war he left to work for a time at the Bethlehem Steel company at San: Frandsco. He enlisted In the See bees as a steamfltter. Robert O'Connor his been working for the Spaniolj since 1948. He was also in the service during the war.
