Y., April 16 -(.-P)- Remember the old bumpy ride ' gag" about square wheels? Well, stop laughing a man here has invented oval ones. They work too. John F. Kopczynski demonstra ted his invention today with a ntodel. Kopczynski, president of the Pivot Punch and Die Corp., said he had been working on the idea for 10 years. The object, he explained, is to give more "dig ging in" power for heavy going through mud or snow. The problem of a smooth ride ha been solved, too. The wheel come in pairs, one ahead of the other. They ar mounted on a rocker arm and are synchronized so that when the flat side of on is on the ground, the other one is on its peak. When the wheel go around, they look like they ara "walking." but the forward mo tion of the asde 1 steady. What doe the inventor think of his device? "It's the first Improvement on the principle of the wheel since the days of the cava man," he said. Practical application, Kopczyn ski adds, might include use on mil itary vehicles, farm implements and earth-moving equipment. The inventor already has a ba sic patent. He says patents on re finements are pending. Lincoln Club Showers Polk Fire Victims LINCOLN Mrs. Harvey Muy skens opened her home at Lincoln for a kitchen shower Wednesday for the M. R. H. F. Sweeney, UAL manager here, received the framed certi ficate in a Denver conference from J. A. Herlihy, UAL vice president for operations who commented that Salem's award was outstand ing especially because of the big increase in operations when the Portland airport was flooded last spring. Salem was among 14 of the 71 UAL stations to receive the safety award. Sweeney said the safety record was earned here through the work of his staff assistants, H. E. White, L. F. McLaughlin. S. L. Kent, L. G. Bosten and C. J. Amend. Sweeney also received company information showing that the rated "arrival performance" for UAL last year represented an 18 per cent improvement over 1947. Any delay or incomplete flight counts against the record in this rating. He added that UAL planes completed 96 per cent of sched uled passenger mileage in 1948.
