Spring Travelers . .

A number of Salem folk have chosen April
for spring vacations in the south and east. Mr.
and Mrs. C. Lester Newman are leaving this
week for Modesto, Calif., arriving in time to
spend Easter with their son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wells. They
plan to be away several weeks, visiting other
southern points.
Colonel and Mrs., Eugene I. Foster are
driving south on Thursday to San Francisco,
where they will spend Easter with their
daughter, Miss Jeanne Foster. The Fosters
will be away a fortnight and will visit with
friends in Oakland and Carmel.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Hamilton are
leaving today for a three weeks motor trip to
Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, Nevada and
Arizona. They will return by way of Cali
fornia. Convention Bound
Mrs. Cedric Reaney is leaving Easter Sun
day for a month's trip in the east and south.
Mrs. Reaney, as president of the Salem Jun
ior Woman's club, will attend the convention
of the General Federation of Women's clubs
at Hollywood Beach hotel, Hollywood Beach,
Florida. Eight women; from Oregon will at
tend the convention and the delegation will
be headed by Mrs. William B. Chandlee. pres
ident of the Oregon Federation. Mrs. Reaney
is the only Junior clubt members from Oregon
attending. Enroute south they will stop at Og
den, Dallas, Texas, New Orleans, arriving at
Miami on April 24.
Convention dates ;are April 24-30. Mrs.
Reaney, who made the acquaintance of New
Jersey delegates at the General Federation
convention in Portland last May, will be their
guests whi'e in the eat and south. In Holly
wood Beach she will room with Miss Frances
Jones and will accompany her north to West
field. New Jersey after the convention, where
she will be the house guest of Miss Catherine
Suydan for a week: The two will visit in New
York and other easterns points during her stay.
On May 13 and 14 Ms. Reaney will attend
the New Jersey state junior convention at At
lantic City and will be registered at official
headquarters with the state junior chairman.
Miss Mildred Ansink. Mrs. Reaney will return
to Salem by plane, leaving New York on
May 16.
Returning to Europe
Miss Sally McLellan, daughter of the
Daniel J. McLellans, is leaving Salem today
by train for New York City, where she will
sail next week for Europe to return as an
army hostess with the special service branch
of the U. S. army. Miss McLellan has been in
Salem since October.

Picnic time arrived simultaneously with spring. Most any nice day from now through
summer will find Mrs. G. Frederick Chambers and her sister, Miss Dorothea Steusloff,
packing the latter's jeep station wagon, for trips to the beach or picnics In the moun

In Oregon it's only wto hours from skis to spring blos
soms. The Warren Doolittles, who are ardent skiiers,
plan to conitnue this sport for many weeks to come. Hee
they're pictured at Sun Valley, where they vacationed ii
March, ready for m few hours at their favorite sport

Luncheons On Social Agenda ...
A newcomer in the capital, Mrs. St. Elmo Massengale, who arrived here
last week from Chicago, will be the honor guest at a 1:15 dessert luncheon for
which Mrs. William R. Moore will be hostess on Tuesday afternoon at her
South High street home. The Massengales have s nine months old daughter,
Render. Mr. Massengale has purchased the Coca Cola Bottling company in
Salem.
Bridge will be in play after the luncheon hoar and the hostess will use
spring flowers in decorating. Bidden to greet the newcomer are Mr. Horace
D. McGee, Mrs. Arthur Erickson, Mrs. Thomas G. Wise, Mrs. Tom H. Dun
ham, Mrs. Charles A. Barclay, Mrs. Harmon T. Harvey, Mrs. Gerald Wing,
Mrs. Howard F.nmann, Mrs. Harlan G. Brock, Mr. Lawrence A. Ballmer and
Mrs. Harold O. Schneider.

Hostesses to Entertain
Mrs. Farley Mogan and Mrs. Bert Walker will be hostesses for two Easter
parties this week at the former's home on Fair Oaks Way in Kingwood
Heights. Guests have bidden to 1:19 o'clock dessert bridge parties on Wed
nesday and Thursday afternoons and covers will ' be placed for twenty-four
guests each day. The Easter motif and spring decorations will be used in the
appointments and about the rooms.
