early use of the X-ray to get rid
of the hairs. This treatment must
be carried tut by one who is ex
perienced since too, much X-ray
may produce severe damage to
the skin, j
Sulfonamide . ointments have
been tried jbut evidently are not
of much benefit. Some patients
have been Cured by the use of pen
icillin. This may.be useful la'
keeping the condition from re
curring, t . . ' 4 .
Sycosis barbae may develo fol
lowing an attack 'of fever blisters
of a skin Infection known a im
petigo, or ;after inflammation of
the skin due to contact with some
Irritating- substance. The condi
tion does not seem to be related
to weakness or poor nutrition.
It would seem that the most im
portant thing about this disease 1
to recognize it quickly when it
first develom and to bein treat
ment promptly. The earlier treat
ment is starteri. the better mar bs
