Enlist Vets in
Reserve Units
Salem army and lair force re
cruiting office is participating in a
nation-wide campaign to enroll
veterans in the enlisted reserve
corps, it was announced Saturday
by Lt CoL Raymond If. Hay,
commander. i
The drive is being directed pri
marily at men whose enlistments
in the reserve corps have recent
ly expired or will terminate soon
and all eligible veterans of World
War IL
"Tor the first time in our his
tory, said Colonel Hay, reservists
are eligible for retirement benefits.
The plan provides a pension be
ginning at 60 after 20 years total
satisfactory service.
"Worked under a point system,
veterans wHh three to five years
war service already have accum
ulated a sizable credit toward a
retirement."
Despite the fact that he is a
civilian, a reservist retains the
grade he held on discharge from
the army and has opportunity for
advancement. CoL Hay said. Serv
ice schools and extension courses
are available to him.
