Policies Sent
To Former GIs
Some of the new policies of Na
tional Service Life Insurance have
been received by farmer GIs of the

Harris, local veterans administra

the procedure.
The policies are being issued
only on GI insurance which has

While the new policies do not

Businessmen
To Take Stand
On Traffic Plan
An official stand on the Bal
dock report" affecting Salem city
traffic and bridge problems will
probably be taken by the North
Salem Business association at its
meeting Tuesday night.
Report of a committee appoint
ed by the association to study the
plan will be presented to the mem
bership. Robert Forkner, commit
tee chairman, stressed Saturday
his committee was interested only
in those portions of the plan af
fecting north Salem.
At recent meetings of the as
sociation discussion had centered
heavily around the proposed one
way grid system for North Capitol
and Summer streets and for Ship
ping and Norway streets, possibi
lity of the use of Highland avenue
as a route to the city center and
widening of Portland road.
The report In question is that
of State Highway Engineer R. H.
Baldock. It calls for a system of
one-way streets in north, central
and south Salem, a new Willamet
te river bridge at Marion street
and a by-pass highway east of
Salem near Lancaster drive.
Forkner said his committee's re
port would be presented for ap
proval or disapproval by the as
sociation. The meeting will be at
8 p.m. in the Willamette Valley
bank building at Hollywood. The
Baldock plan is slated for con
sideration by the Salem city coun
cil on March 14.
OSC Students Told
Ranks of German
Reds on Decline
CORVALLIS, March 5 - (JP) - A
German who escaped from a con
centration camp in 1933 told an
Oregon State college audience he
found the number of communists
decreasing steadily on a recent
trip to his former homeland.
Dr. Gerhart Seger, who was sent
to Germany by the U. S. military
government last summer to lecture
to the people, said the Marshall
plan is working.
He described the currency re
form instituted by the western
powers as the turning point in
German recovery. Dr. Seger, once
a member of the German Reich
stag, is now an American citizen.
