New Sawmill
Starts Work

operations Monday.

The Kings-teen - group -had a
treat Thursday at the Clipfell
borne. Mike Martin, founder of the
organization, came from Seattle
with three visitors, including Doro
thy Rtfch, a returned missionary
from Africa. Mr. and Mrs. George
Clipfell entertained the group at
their home in Fox Valley -Thursday
evening. All young people 'are
welcome. . -

extension unit met Tuesday
at the home of Mrs. Rex Hartley,
with Mrs. William: Wiederkehr as
sisting. Mrs Henry Turnidge and
Mrs. Oakley Cochran led the proj
ect, "Wall Flnishef The unit will
decorate the church auditorium
for the spring festival and Mrs.
Turnidge was named chairman
and Mrs. Robert Beegle, assistant
chairman. The next meeting will
be April 5 at the home of Mr3.
Wilma Eagle. Project will be "Con

Community hall. After a short
program they spent the rest of the
afternoon on a nature study hike
eating their lunch outdoors. Six
teen were present.
The Brownie .troop with the
leaders, Mrs. Robert Burns and
Mrs. Francis Miller, met Tuesday
after school at Community hall.
Next week will be the investure
services at the hall. Mothers of
the Brownies will be guests.
March 11 the troop will go to the
Veterans hall for the swing and
sing. Seventeen girls were present.
Hostesses were Lolita Miller and
Rose Dunigan. f
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Seppala and
son Michael of Astoria were guests
over the week end of Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Antilla, jr., Macleay road.

day for Mr. and Mrs. John Nag
of Mount Angel.

Linn Teachers'
March Schedule
ALBANY Linn county school
teachers will have a fairly busy
time during March. On March 15
the 'Eastern Linn county group will
meet Jit Sweet Home. On March
21 the southern group will hold a
meeting at Halsoy, while on March
24 the central group will meet at
Santiam school in Lebanon. The
Schoolmasters' club is to meet on
the 17th but the place has not
been set.
In addition to the above sched
ule, teachers are- already making
plans to attend the OEA conven
tion in Portland March 31. A num
ber expect to attend the Inland
Empire Education association meet
in Spokane, Wash., April 6-8.

JEFFERSON A school health
clinic, conducted by Dr. W. J.
Stone and Dr. William Endicott,
will be held in the home economics
room at Jefferson schoolhouse on
Wednesday, March 9. First grader
and selected students from Talbot,
Sidney and Looney Butte schools
will be examined from 10 a. m. to
noon, and all first graders and se
lected cases from Jefferson will be
examined from 1 to 3 p. m. Ar
rangements, have been made for
parents to attend. An immuniza
tion clinic also will be conducted,
date to be announced later.

The annual no-host dinner was
set for March 22. A new troop, 78,
was announced as organized at
Donald.
Banker Alois
Keber Retires
ATMt. Angel
MT. ANGEL, March 4 The
friendly, familiar face of Alois
Keber will no longer greet patrons
of' the Mt. Angel bank, for on
March 1 he retired as assistant
manager. He spent 42 years in the
banking business, 32 of them in the
Mt Angel bank.
He began his banking career In
the State Bank of Madelia, Minn.,
his home town, in 1907. After four
years there, he migrated to Ore
gon and accepted a position as
cashier of the state bank in St.
Paul. In 1917 he came to Mt. Angel
and became assistant to his brother.
Joseph J. Keber, cashier of the Mt.
Angel bank. When the bank be
came a branch of the United States
National bank of Portland in 1933.
he was made assistant manager.
On Monday, his last day at the
bank, Keber was presented with
a Wrist watch as a token of ap
preciation and remembrance by
the bank staff.
Keber has taken an active part
in civic, church, school, political
and social life. He has been city
treasurer for many years, and a
republican committeeman for East
Mt. Angel precinct.

Boys Suffer Infection

left this week to visit Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Sheaffer at Myrtle Creek.
Jerry and Johnny Baker, sons
of Mr. and Mrs. John Baker, are
suffering from an ear infection
which followed a siege of measles.

This Season
MT. ANGEL, March 5 The St.
Ann's card party at St. Mary's
auditorium Tuesday night had the
largest attendance of any through
out the season, 38 tables in play.
Bridge, 500 and pinochle were
played and high and low score
prizes were awarded as follows:
bridge, high, C. J. Berning. low.
Miss Helen Keber; 500, Mrs. Ce
cilia Skonetzi and Mrs. Margaret
Dummer; pinochle, Ed Hoffer,
high, and Carl Fessler and Joe
Piatz tied for low.
Cards were followed by a late
supper served in the basement din
ing hall. In charge of serving and
arrangements were Mrs. Paul
Wachter and Mrs. Ed Unger, co
chairmen, Mrs. Leo Till, Mrs. Jack
Van Cleef, Mrs. Andy Wachter,
Mrs. Dave Traviss, Mrs. Ben Tra
