Mrs. McKay to Be
A Tea Hostess

There have been a round of parties the
past week for the legislative contingent'
with many more on the social agenda dur
ing the coming weeks.
One of the larger affairs for this week
will be the tea on Wednesday afternoon
for which Mrs. Douglas McKay, Oregon's
first lady, will be hostess at her Jerris ave
nue residence. The tea will honor the
wives of legislators and calling hours are
from 3 to 6 o'clock. Mrs. Wayne Hadley,
daughter of the hostess, will greet the
guests at the door, and her sister. Miss
Mary Lou McKay, will be home from Ore
gon State college for the tea.
Miss Alene Phillips will introduce the
guests to Mrs. McKay and receiving with
her will be Mrs. William E. Walsh of Coos
Bay, wife of the president of the senate,
and Mrs. Frank VanDyke of Medford,
whose husband is speaker of the house. As
sisting about the rooms during the after
noon will be the wives of Marion county's
delegation, Mrs. Frederick Lamport, Mrs.
Allan Carson, Mrs. W. W. Chadwick, Mrs.
Frank Doerfler, Mrs. Douglas Yeater and
Mrs. John Steelhammer.
Presiding at the tea urn the first part
of the afternoon will be Mrs. Hall S. Lusk
and Mrs. Charles A. Sprague. Pouring the
last hour will be Mrs. Earl T. Newbry and
Mrs. Walter Pearsnn Mrs. E. M. Page will
invite guests into the dining room, where
Mrs. William L. Phillips will be in charge.
Assisting will be Mrs. Roy S. Keene of
Corvallis. Mrs. William S. Cole. Mrs. Rich
ard D. Slater. Mrs. Harry U. Miller. Mrs.
W. Wells Baum and Miss Dorathea Steus
loff. Mrs. McKay At Home Tuesday
Mrs. McKay, who is at home each
Tuesday, will al.co be at home this week.
All townspeople are cordially invited by
the governor's wife to call informally dur
ing the afternoon at the McKay residence
on Jerris avenue.
Governor and Mrs. McKay will be hosts
at dinner Monday night at their home for
the board of control and their wives. Sec
retary of State and Mrs. Earl T. Newbry,
and State Treasurer and Mrs. Walter Pear
son. President of the Senate and Mrs. Wil
liam E. Walsh and Speaker of the House
and Mrs. Frank VanDyke.
Slated for Wednesday night. February
9 will be the dinner party for which Gov
ernor and Mrs. McKay will be hosts in
compliment to members of the legislative
press and their wives.

Mrs. Newbry and Mrs. Pearsonare
planning a tea honoring wives of leg
islators and state official's wives for
Wednesday February 9 at the New
bry residence. On February 8 the
Newbrys will entertain the board of
control, president of the senate",
speaker of the house and their wives
at dinner.
Benefit Bridge .
Thursday, February 17 has been set
as the date for the Salem Woman'
club benefit bridge party at the
clubhouse. Proceeds from the affair
will be used to augment the scholar
chip and fellowship fund.
A dessert luncheon will be served
at one o'clock with bridge and pin
ochle in play following. Mrs. George
Ailing heads the directorate for the
affair and Mrs. Merle Travis wiT be
in charge of ticket sale. Mrs. Bert
Walker and Mrs. Harlan Judd will
decorate the club rooms.

Three Willamette university alumni, who are wives of solons, in
clude Mrs. William McAllister of Medford. Mrs. C. K. McColloch
of Baker and Mrs. Joseph M. Dyer of Astoria, the latter two are
wives of representatives and Mrs. McAllister's husband is a senator.
