New Year's Weekend Will)
Be Gay With Dances

The New Year's weekend will be
for Thursday. Friday and Saturday
Wisteria club members will hold their New Year's dance on Thurs
day night at the Veteran's hall with Guy Albin's orchestra playing for
dancing between 9 and 12 o'clock. The New Year's theme will be
carried out in the decorations and
Mrs. Rex Gibson. Mr. and Mrs.
Evert Givens, Mr. and Mrs. Bryan
Goodenough, Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Halvorson and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin
L. Peterson.
Several pre-dance parties are
being planned by hosts. Dr. and
Mrs. John Ramage and Mr. and
Mrs. Stanleymith will entertain
with a party before the dance at
the Ramage country place on Croi
san Creek. Seventy guests have
been bidden to call between 8 and
10 o'clock.
Mr. and Mrs. George Koertge
and Mr. and Mrs. Bjarhe Ericksen
.are also entertaining friends before
the dance at the former's home on
oOth Cottage street with twenty
four guests bidden to the affair.
THlieum New Year's Ere Dance
For New Year's eve is'the Tilli
cum club's formal dance at the
Marion hotel, beginning at 9 o'
clock. Dancing-will follow between
10 and 1 o'clock to the music of
Glenn Williams and his orchestra.
Tables will be arranged cabaret
style and festive New Year's deco
rations and candles will provide
the decorative note. Hats, horns,
confetti and balloons will be giv
en as favors to the guests to ring
in the New Year. A snack bar will
be featured during the evening
with a one o'clock breakfast cli
maxing the affair. A number of
guests, several from out-of-town,
are expected to attend the dance.
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. English and
Mr. and Mrs. Herman C. Jochim
sen are in charge of arrangements
for the party.
Carousel Club Dance
The Carousel Dancing club will
entertain with a New Year's eve
semi-formal dance at the May
flower hall with Dan Uhey's or
chestra engaged to play for the
affair. The social hour will be
from 9 to 10 o'clock with dancing
following.

the directorate for the affair and
assisting are Mr. and Mrs. Robert
J. Davidson, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph

Air Reserve Party
The Air Reserve association will
entertain with an informal New
Year's eve dancing party at the
Quonset Hut beginning at A o'
clock. All former air force men
and their friends are invited to
attend. The committee in charge of
arrangements includes Robert
Gentzkow, Gordon King, P. D. Van
Ausdell, jr., Claude Boyd, Edwin
Vlaerz, and John Hagen.
Dinner Dance
Subscription club members will
celebrate the New Year with a
formal dinner dance on Saturday
night, January 1 at the Marion
hotel. Following the 9 o'clock din
ner Glenn Williams and his or- j
chestra will play for dancing until!

Cotton Bowl
Bound for the Cotton Bowl at
Dallas', Texas are several Salem
grid fans. Governor-elect and Mrs.
Douglas McKay will be among
those attending the Oregon-Southern
Methodist university game at
the Cotton Bowl on New Year's
day. They will board the special
train leaving from Portland ' this
week. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Vanden
eynde wi$ also attend the Cotton
Bowl game and will make the trip
by plane.
Mr. and Mrs. James Avriette
and three daughters are spending
the holidays in Dallas, Texas with
relatives and will attend the Cot
ton Bowl game on New Year's.
Mr. and" Mrs- Wilfred Wilier are
leaving today Tor Dallas. Texas to
attend the grid classic at the 'Cot
ton Bowl. Their son, Fred, 1 will
remain in Salem during their ab
sence and will be with his grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Jphns.

Rites of
Interest
A number of Salem people will
be in Corvallis this afternoon to
attend the wedding of a former
Salem girl. Miss Mary Margaret
Glenn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Burdette Glenn, who will become
the bride of Robert L. Coate, jr.,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L.
Coate of Richmond, Indiana. The
nuptials will take place at 5 o'
clock at the Presbyterian church
with the Rev. Robert R. Buckley
officiating. Joe Cosley will be the
organist and Miss Marilyn Powell
will sing. Lighting the tapers will

be Mrs. Robert Blair and Mrs
Quentin Greenough.
Mr. Glenn will give his tall,
brunette daughter in marriage.
Her bridal gown is of white satin
with lace bodice and peplum and
full train. Her tiered illusion veil
is fingertip length and was worn
by Mrs. Roger M. Schnell at her
wedding last summer. The veil
will cascade from a laced open
crown headdress. She will carry
red poinsettias and white orchids.
Preceding the bride to the altar
will be a quartet of young girls,
who will wear red velveteen
dresses and carry holly wreaths.
Mrs. Melvin D. Knorr will be the
matron of honor and bridesmaids
