Services Held
For Roy Rae
Final rites for Roy Rae, 66, resi
dent of Salem for the past 35
years who died Wednesday at his
home, route 1. box 488. were held
Friday from Clough - Barrick
chapel. The Rev. Lloyd T. Ander
son officiated.
Rae was born Dec. 25, 1881, in
Boone county. Nebraska, came to
Oregon and was married to Maude
R. Weaver in 1920. He and his
brother, Elton Rae, founded the
Rae Bros, meat packing plant and
operated it for 20 years here. In
1941 he moved to his Polk county
ranch.
Survivors are the widow, Maude
R. Rae; daughters, Mrs. Lorraine
Stoutenburg and Ruth Rae; sons,
Donald and Lloyd Rae; grandchild.
Gene Stoutenburg; brothers,
Thomas of Salem and Elton Rae
of Eugene.
Sen. Taft Says
War Distant
NEW YORK, Dec. 18-(P)-Sen.
Robert A. Taft (R-Ohio) said per
sons "closest to the Berlin situa
tion do not expect any war to re
sult from it."
The same opinion exists "among
the people of the western Europe
an nations, though there is much
apprehension," he added.
Taft made his comments in a
prepared statement upon his re
turn from Europe aboard the liner
America after a 26-day tour of It

land and France.

men that substantial reductions
could be made in the economic
