Bishop Talks
At Lions Lunch
To deify freedom as an end it
self always means trouble warned
i Bishop Genilfi Kennedy of the
Methodist rhurch in an address
before the Siilem Lions club Thurs
day noon in the Marion hotel.
The Methodist bishop for this
area and several other clergymen
attending a Salem district Metho
dist conference were guests of the
club at its luncheon meeting.
Bishop Kennedy declared free
dom without a foundation of duty
and obligation soon turns to li
cense, "which is the worst slavery
of all." He urged his listeners to
reestablish spiritual values by do
ing the hard work of "digging the
coal of character."
World unity depends on common
worship before a common God. and
it has already become apparent
that modern advances in trade and
transportation and education can
not achieve this unity, the bishop
asserted.
