to pay off. an election, bet.
William F. Holliger, 23, a tele
phono company employe, leaped
from a coast guard launch into
nine feet of water. He held a Dew
ey placard with one hand and his
nose with the other.
Although full clothed. Hollinger
quickly swam tq a coast guard
runway, while an amused crowd
cheered. The weather was balmy
but the water was a cool 40 de
grees. I j
Hollinger's only comment was
"B-r-r-r!"
To beavers go the distinction
of having played a greater part in
the exploration of America than
any other animal. So valuable
were their pelts that trappers
Dushed faster and further than
anyone else, paving the way for
frontiersmen ana settlers.
