College Duo
Reveals
Troth , ;
Causing much excitement at
the Alpha Chi Omega house on the
Willamette -University campus on
Wednesday night was the an
nouncement of th eengagement of
one of the "sisters," Miss Beverly
Hutchison, to Kenneth Arthur
Holmes, son of Mr. and Mrs. G.
Glenn Holmes of Albany. The
bride-elect is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. W. Hutchison of Sa
lem. No date has been set for the
wedding.
The news was revealed at the
Alpha Chi Omega and Beta Theta
Pi exchange dinner, and fireside
when two flower hearts, with the
names ?Bev and Bud", arrived for
the president, accompanied by a
poem disclosing the betrothal. It
was at a similar affair in (the
spring that the couple first met.
Miss Hutchison is a freshman at
Willamette and her fiance is a
junior at the university and a
member of Beta Theta Pi fratern
ity. Guests ef Mr. and Mrs. William
M. Smith on Wednesday were her
mother, Mrs. F. A. Magruder, and
her aunt, Mrs. E. L. Whitney, of
Corvallis. Mrs. H. G. Smith en
tertained informally at a dessert
bridge for the visitor at her Cen
ter street home in the afternoon.
Master Sergeant and Mrs. Hale
T. Cade and children, Herbert and
Inez May of Fort Lewis will ar
rive in the capital Saturday for
the golden wedding anniversary of
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Her
bert Babb, at their country home
on October 23.

Barbara Arthur
Weds in Reno
The wedding of Miss Barbara
Arthur, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Harvey Arthur, i to Robert Fish,
was solemnized at the First Meth
odist church in Reno, Nevada on
October 18.
The new Mrs. Fish wore a toast
brown suit, brown accessories and
a yellow and brown orchid. She
is a graduate of Salem high school
and worked in the motor vehicle
division. She has been employed
in San Francisco for the past year,
Mr. Fish, a graduate of San
Francisco schools and California
Agricultural college, sis a deputy
sheriff in San Francisco,
They are now in Salem visiting
her parents enroute to California
to live.

feature public health with Mrs.

Opens Friday
. A coiinedy-farce, "Listen to
Leon." will open the season for
the Salem Civic Players on Fri- i
day, October 22 at the Salem
Civic theatre, 155 South Liberty

Included in the cast are Agnes
Drummohd. who takes the role
of Babe step-daughter to Leon,
following him everywhere and
insisting; he find her a husband.
Anne Cushman, played by Eleanor
Ftnden, is a demure eastern Rirl
who is shocked at the boldness of
her western friend. Carolyn Jami
son, played by Helen Lucas.
The role of Leon, the liar. Is
taken by Jim Baer, who has ap
peared in numerous Civic Player
productions. Nate Steinbock plays
the blustering uncle of Leon and
Archibald Darby, English friend
of Leon is portrayed by Maurice
Deckard. George Hall, new to the
Civic Players this year, plays the
role of Rogers, Leon's valet, and
Nellie, Babe's maid, is played by
Evelyn Esau.
"Listen to Leon - is being spon
sored by the Salem Postal Clerks
auxiliary and is directed by Miss
Beulah Graham.

in the capital for the past month

Friday for the south and east. She

Pasadena with her son, Bruce, who
is attending California Institute

Spastic Children

children in Oregon in connection
