' j The near-skeleton remains of a man trussed with wire and weighted with a 64-pound rock - - was brought to the surface by Carl Williams and Clyde Edminster, both of Salem route ,4j The men were cleaning the well when they made ;- the gruesome find. Deputy Sheriff tony Neufeldt In charge of the investigation, said Friday that he is continuing to trace down every available lead which might lead to apprehension of a killer. Skeleton Returned Friday morning the skeleton was returned to the Dallas mor gue from the Portland state police crime detection laboratory at the University of Oregon medical school. Other remains taken from the well, along with the soil and water, are still ' being examined by crime technicians to determine how long the body was In the wa ter. Neufeldt pointed out that the success of the scientists In deter mining when the body was thrown In the well Is all-important in ul timate apprehension of the slay er. Estimates on the time have ranged from two to 10 years. List Beinr Studied Neufeldt said he is in possession cf an almost complete list of per sons who have camped on the farm property and lived in the house near the well during the past eight years. If the time of the crime can be determined accurately, he stated, it may be possible to link a former tenant with the slaying. - The deputy said he expected a complete laboratory on the re mains In about three weeks. Meanwhile, another murder charge is pending in the same county. , Amos Sooter, 40, charged with the ambush shotgun slaying of a neighbor, is scheduled to appear in the circuit court of Judge Ar lie Walker in Dallas, Monday, Oc tober 18 at 9:30 a. m. Faces Harder Charge LSooter, a fanner, faces a first degree murder charge, in the death of Fred Baley, 49, August 12; aft er a family argument over a forthcoming marriage. Sooter has pleaded innocent and Is being held in "the Polk county jail in Dallas. He is accused of ambushing Baley and his wife as the couple drove toward Dallas In their truck. Ten shots from a .12 guage shotgun tore f through the vehicle, some of them striking Baley. Sooter later turned a fun on himself, but recovered from head wounds. Pedee Charles L. Savitt Orchestra On Benefit Tour Al Donahue will bring the or chestra of the late Jan Savitt to the Glenwood Ballroom Wednes day night it was announced yes terday. The entire proceeds of a five week tour are to go to Mrs. Savitt. , Featured with the band, on tour will be Margaret Brown, versatile dancer. Savitt, who died October 4, fol lowing a stroke, played a number of times in recent years, in the ballroom at Jantzen Beach park. He was one of the nation's most popular band leaders.
