Salem high's Vik footballers, de
termined to make a better show
ing than they did against Van
couver last Friday, began prepara
tions Monday for game No. 2 of
uie campaign against Klamath
Falls on the Pelican field Friday
night. Coach Loren Mort report
ed that his lads came out of the
tough Vancouver fray free of in
juries, other than for a few
bruises.
Mort in concentrating on polish-
never
got going against the heavier and
more experienced Vancouver
eleven. The Salem coach is also
making efforts to bolster the cen
ter of the forward wall.
Bright note in the locals' Initial
tilt was the occasional flashes of
speed displayed by Halfbacks Jim
Jensen and Dale Olson, but the
vixs passing game was not ef
fective. Mort is counting on more
aerial activity against the Pell
cans, with Quarterback Buzz Co
valt and Gene Carver doing the
tossing.
The Vik skipper Is pessimistic
about his crew's chances with K
Falls, for the Pels have another
high-geared outfit. But Mort feels
that every game his green charges
play will have taught them that
many more lessons.
Another prospect for the Salem
backfield is late-comer Leonard

halfback post Monday.
Monday. The addition of the

the booking for Salem's first fistic
