The hobbles, establishing what
amounts to a singfe game record
in itself for the locals, accounted
for three-fourths of the enemy
runs. But danged if the same out
fit, after making the bobbles didn't
come up with a beautifully execut- :
ed triple play, the first in WILi
history for the local yard '
This highlight, as the season .

to Al Spaeter at second, who in
turn wheeled on to Jimmy Wert
at first. The Vie runner who had
been on second it wa Lou Ku
biak who had walked to begin with
came right on for the plate and
Wert fired him out with a throw
to Catcher Ralph Samhammer.
Usually a triple play comes off a
line drive, when baserunners are
on the move and can't get back.
But this one was a grounder, and
it gave the gathering something
to cheer about.
The score was 6-3 for the Vies
at the time, and it stayed that way
as Al Goot ne of the lesser lights
on the Victoria mound staff, cuff
ed off the Solons with a six-hitter.
The triple play wasn't the only
fielding gem of the night for Sa
lem, as in the third inning a Spae-ter-to-Gedzius-to-Wert
combina
tion rang up the l2nd double
play of the season, seven over the
all-time record established last
year by Yakima.
Young arid "small Jimmy Foster,
looking for his first win in a Sen
ator uniform, pitched well enough
to get it last night. But Jim had
the misfortune of being on the hill
when his pals had their worst
fielding night of the campaign.
Only two of the runs were earned
off him, ana he held the Vies to
I four hits, three of these in a three
, run sixth inning, all singles to the
left side.
The other three Vic runs came
in the fourth, on one hit and three
miscues that had the gathering
wondering if it was really looking
at the top fielding nine of the
WIL. Foster whiffed three and
walked four.
Salem's runs belonged to Eddie
Barr personally. He singled across
the first in the opening Inning
after Al Spaeter's single and Cal
Mclrvin's walk. And in the third
Eddie lashed a wicked line-drive
double to left to score both Spae
ter and Dick Sinovic, who had
singled.
Sinovic was back in the lineup
after a death in his family, and
picked up two hits in four trips. So
did Barr and Spaeter, which end
