Detroit-Idanha Deputy Sherif f
Virtually Assured by County
A regular Marlon county deputy sheriff to patrol daily the Detroit
Idanha area is virtually assured. Marion County Sheriff Denver Young
reported Monday.
Marion county court has promised to supply a car for the new
deputy's duty All that remains to be done. Sheriff Young said, is to
find a satisfactory man to fill the Job. ;

Petition for an additional deputy
in the Detroit-Idanha district was
made to the county court several
months ago because of the greatly-
increased population of that dis
trict Tentative plans. Sheriff Young
said, are to send a deputy out on
daily patrol through that district
during the early evening and night.
The deputy would work out of the
sheriffs headquarters In Salem.

day with the court and sheriff were
M. C. McCleane, Ott Russell, John
Arthur, E. W. Bray and L. C. Da
vis, all of Detroit, and Bud Gesher
of Idanha.

Sidney Boyd of Dayton, Ore, was
among the 547 graduates of the
University of Chicago 234th con
vocation in Rockefeller Memorial
chapel. He was given a master's

First Fall Meeting

gion, held its first meeting of the
fall season Monday night at Le
gion hall with Commander Ho
mer Smith, jr., in charge.
Joe Kulushta was appointed cap
tain of the post's rifle and firing
squad. Bob Green, chairman of the
fair booth committee, reported
both of the posts concessions were
a success this year. Other fair com
mittee members were Charles
Creighton and Earl Lyons.

"Miss Salem" contest held at the
Salem baseball park last July 4.

and Cottage Grove before moving
to Salem

more than 40 per cent of federal
