RETURN FROM FUNERAL
-Mrs. Jessie Campbell and Mrs.
E. H. Galloway of Salem have
returned from San Diego after
attending funeral services for
their nephew, 1 William Horace
(Bud) Stewart former Salem
resident. Stewart was drowned in
June in a storm, while . fishing
off San Diego. Burial was at the
national cemetery there. Stewart
rode frequently at state fairs
horse shows here, it was report
ed, and later served as a captain
in the army, including a time at
Camp Adair.

Retakes in the Marion county
chest x-ray survey which ended
Wednesday, will be snapped at the
mobile truck x-ray unit on the
county courthouse grounds here

More than 2,000 workers in Sa
lem industries received free x-
rays since August 6, the Marion
County Tuberculosis and Health
association reported. Last spring
9,033 x-rays were taken in this
county. .
No estimate could be made Fri
day of the number called back for
the larger prints Monday. It was
stressed, however, that only re
peats would be taken Monday and
it was hoped to take them all in
one day. The unit will open at

Air Force Day
Dance Planned
Plans for a military and invita
tional ball in observance of Air
Force day were announced Satur
day by the observance committee j
of the Salem chapter. Air Reserve
association. The event will be Sep
tember 17 at Salem armory.
Capt Robert F. White, commit
tee chairman, said all former and
active members of the air force
and other military groups will be
invited.
Plans are also underway for
downtown window displays of air
force equipment and activities. It
is hoped by the committee to have
several types of aircraft flown to
Salem airport for demonstration
during the week preceding Air
Force day, September 18.
