NEW YORK. June 1 -(JF)- Oil
stocks went ahead in high gear
in today's market while other is
sues didn't get very far one way
or the other.
Many of the oils scored new
highs for the year or longer with
gains of fractions to around 2
points. Changes elsewhere were
a close mixture of small gains
and losses.
Aircraft, motor and railroad
stocks leaned to the minus side.
Steels did better than most oth
ers. Turnover perked up a little from
Friday's 1.240,000 shares but the
total of 1,300,000 shares was well
under several recent fast sessions.
The Associated Press average of
60 stocks advanced ?1 of one point
to 71. Of 1.032 issues traded, 397
advanced and 417 declined.

was of topmost importance at
today's board of trade session.
Traders discounted other reports
and were influenced almost en
tirely by the progress of crops".
The Santa Fe railroad said late
rains over the southwest had im
proved crop conditions, and wheat
developed a heavy tone. This
condition was not improved when
trade reports told a heavy move
ment qf grain from farms in the
southwest and into Minneapolis.
Lack of rain in the corn belt,
on the other hand gave corn a
firm to strong tone during most
of the session.
It the close wheat was to
114 lower than Saturday's close,
July $2.33-33 1.4. Com was to
2 cents higher, July $2.174-Ii.
