ternational league win over the

rain let up just in time to allow the
clubs to go at it. Consequently it
was the only game played in the
series and amounted to Salem's
fifth straight verdict over the Caps
this season.
Salem returns to its home park
Monday to open a three-game
stand with the Spokane Indians.

came through for tonight's win,
his fifth straight of the season.

whipped along by curly-thatched
Dick Riggs in the sprints, swept
to the 22nd annual high school
track and field championship here
today, but the lopsided victory
piled up by Bill Bowerman's
sharpies surprised nary a one of
the record 6.500 patrons. Medford
was heavily favored after domi
nating the qualifying round yes
terday. The Tornado piled up 35 points,
HVa by Riggs, and finished ex
actly 20 markers up on second
place Jefferson of Portland. Wash
ington of Portland was third with

The racing roadsters, oft
known better as "hot rods" are
coining to town May SI to in
augurate the racing season. Pro
moter Jimmy Kyan announced
yesterday. The "rods," many of
them new and faster than were
the speedsters Ryaa had boss
ing and bumping up the Lone
Oak strip last year, wtll again

will follow the time trials.

players. Besides, he and Partner
Numa Arnold are devout Salem
Senator fans. Curt will unques
tionably be the proudest (and

Caps open their season at Waters.

the rponsorship of a crow shoot,
objective of which is to rid Marion
and Polk counties ol the destruc
tive black birds. j "
A valuable shotgun will Jbe
awarded to the sportsman -who
turns in the most crows' feet dur
ing the contest, which will run
from May 17 to June 30. To, en
ter the crow-blasting competition,
hunters must purchase a fifty-cent
registration card from one of sev
eral local sporting goods stores.
