VICTORIA, May 12 -(Special)- Paced by the rapping of Dick
Binovic and Al Spaeter, the Salem Senators slapped the Victoria
Athletics, 8-3, here tonight to salvage the finale of a three-game
Western International league series after the'A's had snared the first
two tilts. The win moved the So
lo na over the Athletics Into third
place, half a game back of runner -up
Wena tehee.
Big Jim Olsen notched his third
pitching win of the campaign as
he went the route for the Ore
gonians. Olsen gave up 10 hits,
same total which Salem garnered
eff Ward and Keuhl, but was
tough in the clutches. He nipped
Victoria threat in the eighth by
fanning Sal Recca with the bases
loaded.

Meanwhile Sinovic and Spaeter

Oregon State college freshman
track and field team, dominating
running events above the 220 and
sweeping the mile. Javelin, shot
and winning a forfeit in the two
mile, defeated the Oregon Frosh

night as the San Diego Padres
edged them, 5-4, to even the Pa
cific Coast league series. A two
run outburst in the ninth inning
off Jake Mootry produced the
Padre victory, and knocked the
Portlands deeper into the cellar.
San Francisco's rampaging Seals
increased their first place margin
to three games as they nosed Hol
lywood, 4-3, in 10 innings, while
the runnerup Los Angeles Angels

eggs" today. But between 35,000
and 45,000 fans still planned to
be on hand for the great Maryland
classic Saturday and they were
doing their best to talk up a race.
It was "Citation all the way" in
every conversation as staid old
Baltimore began to palpitate over
the big show, but there waatalk

gundi and Bovard;
Eager to grasp at anything
which might be a threat to the
great Calumet colt, the turf fol
lowers seized upon exceptional
performances this week by Sal
magundi and Bovard.
Salmagundi, the only one of
five probable starters not on the
grounds at old Hilltop, demanded
notice on the basis of an impres
sive win in yesterday's Delaware
township purse at Garden State.
Lugging the Preakness weight
of 126 pounds. Salmagundi won
the six-furlong event in 1:10 35.
He continued on for a mile and an
eighth and his; time of 1:37 25
for the mile equalled the track
record.
