bitsch has been highly acclaimed
as concert pianist here and in
Europe. He was born and educa
ted in Vienna and studied under
Leschetxkl, a teacher of many
prominent pianists.
Under the direction of Frank
Fisher the university symhony or
chestra ha become well known to
Salem audiences. Tuesday night
concert marks its third appear
ance this year. In addition to the

will be a discussion of arrange
ments for the state convention of
the OSMTA In Eugene In June.
Two Concert
Dates Set
Prifcilla Melaingor Wiltsey Is
announcing the dates for her two
concerts, the marimba on Monday,
May 17 and the accordion on Sat
urday, May 22. The marimba con
cert will be held at Waller hall at
8:18 with featured soloists, Wayne
Mercer, who la appearing for the
fifth year, and Sharon Lamkin for
the first time. Guest artist will be
Anne Gibbens, pianist.
Appearing on the program will
be ladies marimba sextette, in
cluding Lois G i 1 1 1 n g a, Peggy
Frantz, Dona Zehnor, Muriel War
ner, Orabelle Dagger and Rosalie
Cllne; girls marimba trio, Elaine
and Delores Townsend and Max
Ins Scott; Junior marimba quar
tette, Laurel Ann Warner, Clar
issa Humphries, Wayne Macomber
and George Meislnger. This will
be the first year ensemble work
has been featured.
The accordion concert will be
held at the Leslie Junior high
school auditorium at 8:15 o'clock
with 117 Salem accordionists par
ticipating. Featured will be ad
vanced bands and guest accordion
ists from Portland, Medford, Eu
gene, Corvsllis and Lebanon.
Chester Pletka of Eugene will con
duct the master accordion ensem
ble as a finale.
A Cappella fchoir
Will Sing Today
The Willamette university A
Cappella choir under the direc
tion of Dean Melvin H. Geist will
present Its Salem concert Sunday
at 7:30 p. m. in the First Presby
terian church. This is the only
full concert appearance of the
choir in Salem this year, and will
give local people an opportunity
to hear some of the best in choral
music. The program will be the
same as that presented by the
choir on its recent tour. This pro
gram Includes representative
numbers of early church music,
modern Russian and folk music
and negro spirituals.
