AMITY John Francis Swit
zer, 88, resident of Amity, died
at McMinnville hospital April 30
after five years of illness.
He was born in Austria April
25, 1860. In 1904 he was married
to Jennie A. Sweetnam at Al
gona, Iowa. Mrs. Switzer died
March 31, 1948.
Memorial services were held at
Macy and Son chapel Monday,
May 3. the Rev. L. Frank Evenson
officiating. Interment was in the
Amity cemetery. The Switzers had
lived in Oregon and th vicinity
of Amity since 1908. The past
few years they lived in Amity
in their new horn on Nursery
street. Mr. Switzer was a mem
ber of th Episcopal church.
He is survived by one daughter,
Mrs. Jean Cox, Coronado, Calif.;
three grandchildren, Mrs. Clair
Barrett, Montpelier, Idaho; Mrs.
H. D. Gibson, San Diego, Calif ;
John W. Cox. jr., La Jolla, Calif.,
and thre great granddaughters.

Auto Registration
Rises 12 Per Cent
Oregon motor vehicle registra
tion for the first quarter of 1948
is up 12 per cent over the same
period last year. Secretary of State
Earl T. Newbry reported Friday.
All registered vehicles totalled
512.224 to surpass the 457,525 re
corded In the first three months
of 1947. Passenger cars accounted
for 397,094 of the total, an increase
of nearly 40.000 and approaching
the entire 1947 passenger registra
tion of 407,186, Newbry said.

Four Corners
Roads to Join
County System
A decision to incorporate two
roads in the Four Corners ar
into the county road system was
reached by Marion county court
Friday. j
The roads are LaBranch ave
nue from Lancaster drive to Ma
bl street and Mable street from
LaBranch avenue to Cast State
street.
Four Corner rural fire protec
tion district had requested th
court to take over the i roads and
Improve them. Purpose: is to en
able fire fighting equipment to
better cover the district.
The county court Friday also!
decided to postpone until June 4;
