Army Re-Signs Robert Quamme Robert E. Quamme, 228 McNary it. West Salem, World war II vet eran and national-guard member, re-enlisted in the regular army this week at the Salem recruiting Office. Quamme re-entered the army as technical sergeant and will train .recruits at Fort Ord, Calif. He fought with the famous northwest 41st division in the South Pacific and had been- a member of Sa lem's company B, 162nd infantry battalion, since his discharge from the army. A graduate of Salem high school in 1936, Quamme also att Willamette university for t one year. He wears the Asiatic-Pacific campaign ribbon. He is mar ried and has two children. Another veteran enlisting this week was Kenneth R. Valley Obituaries. Marraret Powell MONMOUTH. April 29 Funer al will be held at the local Chris tian church at 2 p m. Friday, for Mrs. Margaret Powell, 77, who died Wednesday at the family farm home between Monmouth and Dallas. Born Feb 23, 1871 at Middle Grove, Mo., she attended schools there including Middle Grove Aca demy. She was married in 1891 at Middle Grove to Perry O. Powell of Monmouth, Ore. They made their home in the midwest for nint years, while he was teaching at Drake uniyersity, Ky. In 1900 they moved to Monmouth where he was a staff instructor at Oregon Nor mal schoofl" until its suspension in 1911. They bought a farm which ha sMnce been the family home. He died several years ago. Surviv ors are five children, Mrs. Lydia Carmichael, Monmouth; and Mrs. Freda Winn, Portland; and Wilmer, Perry and Braxton Powell of Mon mouth; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Powell was a longtime member of the Christian church and of Monmouth grange. She was chaplain of Polk county Pomona grange this year. Burial at Fir Crest cemetery here.
