"Just like a mother with her brood," lie boasts. Then came market time for fry ers and the crisis ! Sue simply wouldn't let Ben near her chickens with an axe. She'd raised them as babes ... she'd named them ... they were her rery own ! Bea poured himsu a glass of beer, to think things over sensibly. He hated to lose the price oa fryers ...bat be fl cured Sue bad put op with Mia peculiarities, he gwessed he could pat ap with her fondness for the chickens. So now Ben has the nicest brood of laying- hens in town, and from where I sit, one of the most suc cessful marriages, too. All because he "liyed-and-let-live" literally. And whenever he wants fried chicken, he takes his bride over to Andy's Garden Tavern for a crisp wing- and a gl.s of beer. Copyright, 1948, Umittd Slates Brcwtrt Feundatio The handsome front hallway pic tared here with itn long grace ful staircase is one of the at tractive spots in the Bush fam ily home built atop the hill on Mission street. The home (top photo), vacated since the death of Sally Bash last year, soon will be occupied by A. X. Bush whose home property at Capi tol and Chemeketa streets has been taken over by the state. The house pictured here will eventually become an art mu seum to be manaxed by the Salem Art association. It will be preserved, with most of the original furnishings. The hall and many other rooms in the house are papered in the orig inal wall covering of gold bro cade paper, the woodwork is of natural dark finish and the clock at the top of the stairs Is 150 years old. Also pictured is one of the guest bedrooms done in Victorian furnishings of walnut, typical of the 1880s. It is the "green room." The Bush home is almost the last remaining residence built dur ing this period of Salem's early life. It was designed by Wil liam Boothby, who was also the architect for other fine old homes and for the original building of the state hospiUl and the Marion county court bouse. Some un-needed furn ishings of the Bush home are being sold this week by the art association. (Pictures on page 1) Valley ,1 Obitunries .
