    It's Dance Time, .
There will be much gaiety among the younger set
during the holidays with two large dances slated.
Monday night will be the Rainbow formal dance at
the armory with Glenn Williams orchestra to play
from 9 to 12 o'clock.
! Eva McCullen, daughter of the V. D. McCullens,
n. Cathy Cooper, daughter ef tne Dan Coopers, will
be hostesses for a large coke party before the dance at
the former's country place, "Maxhaven," on Winding
Way road. Fifty-five couples have been invited to
call between 8 and 9:30 o'clock. -Elizabeth Jane John
son will also' be a pre-dance hcstess when she enter
tains 40 pi the high school set at a coke party at her
Fairmount Hill home.
Christmas night will be the scene of the Spin
sters annual charity benefit ball at Normandy Manor
between 9 and 1 o'clock. Patrons and patronesses will
be Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. F. V.
Poorman and Mr. and Mrs. George. Alexander. Mr.
and Mrs John Johnson will be at home to 40 of their
friends before the ball at their Fairmount Hill resi
dence. Mr. and Mrs. William Duncan of Silverton
will assist the hosts.

Many Holiday at Homes on Calendar...

Holiday at homes will highlight the social agenda this Christnu with more than the usual num
ber already calendared. More and more invitations come in the mail each day to the-e festive partem.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Burke have invited a grcup cf their neighbors and friends to an o;:en
house Christmas afternoon from 3 o'clock on at their. Fir street residence. Their son, Robert Burke,
is home from UCLA for the holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carson, jr. will entertain with a holiday at home on December 27 at the
Silverton home of Mrs. George Steelhammer for their Salem and Silverton friends. A group of the
young married set have been invited to call after 8 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. William Shinn will assist
the hosts.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Bonerteele and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Knox have rent out invitation to a
Christmas at home for December 27. Friends have been bidden to call between 8 and 11 o'clock at
the Knox home cn Park Lane.
Parties Slated for Next Sunday
Sunday, December 28 has been ciofen by many for holiday at homes. Invitations are in the mail
to an open house for which Mr. and Mrs. Coburn Grabenhorst and Mr. and Mir. Richard Graben
horst will be hosts on December 28 at the former's home on Mission street. A hundred and twer.ty
five couples will call between the h urs of 4 and 9 o'clock.
Dr. and Mrs. Rorcoe Wilson tnd Dr. and Mrs. Tom Dunham will entertain with an at home on
December 23 at the Wilyon residence on South Chuich i-ticet. Calling hours are ficm 3 to 6 o'clock
and from 7 to 10 o'clock.
Dr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Purvine will be hrcts for their annual holiday at home on Sunday, De
cember 28 at their Saginaw street residence with guests calling between 3 and 7 o'clock.
Mr. and Mrs Edgar A. Linden have issued invitations to en at home for December 28 at their Fair
mount Hill residence. Seventy couples have been bidden to call between 5 and 9 o'clock. Assisting
the hosts will be Mrs. P. P. Vhitmore of Klamath Falls, Mrs. R. D. Woodrow, Mrs. Edgar A. Linden,
Jr., and Miss Kathleen Hug. Special guests who will be here for the party are Mr. Linden's broth
er and sister-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. C. C Linden, who recently moved to Portland from New York,
and Mr. and Mrs. Whitmore.

Rose Bowl Bound . .
Admiring glances on the faces of Grover and Jane Carter, children of
the Lester Carters, are in anticipation of what Santa Claus will bring
them on Christmas morning. They have made many a visit to the toy
departments while shopping with their parents the past month.
Patrick and Michael Kolb, above in the circle, young sons of Mr.

The Rose Bowl, game and Tournament of
Roses parade in Pasadena are attracting many Sa
lem people south this year.
Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Brock and children, Pa
tricia and Harland, left for the south by car Sat
urday to spend the holidays. They go by way of
Reno, Las Veges.. Phoenix and Tucson, where they
will be for Christmas. They will spend several
days in Los Angeles and attend the Rose Bowl
game on New Year's. They will return north by
the coast route shortly after the first of the year.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Pade will leave by car for the
south on Christmas -morning. Their destination is
Los Angeles, where they will be the guests of his
brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Mass
of Culver City On New Year's day they will attend
the parade and games at Pasadena. Before return
ing north in three weeks the Pades hope to so
journ in Arizona, a'nd Death Valley. En route home
the travelers will stop in San Francisco and Val
lejo, where they will visit with former Salem resi
dents. Dr. and Mrs. George W. Shepard.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Maple are leaving the
end of the week by car for Los Angeles and Pas
adena to attend the Rose Bowl game. Dr. and Mrs.
Robert E. Joseph will leave by car Christmas night
for the south to attend the game and parade on
New Year's day. They will be guests of former Sa
lem residents. Dr. and Mrs. Howard Roberts at
their home in the San Fernando valley, who will
aL-o attend the game. t
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Steinbock and Mr. and
fcrs. Louise Epstein plan to leave, shortly after
Christmas by car for Los Angeles to spend ten
days. They will also attend the Rose Bowl game.

Yuletide Teas on Social Agenda ...
The yuletide social agenda is filled with many varied events. At homes, teas and dinners
seem to be the most popular form of entertaining during the holidays.
For the high school set is the tea for which Elizabeth Jane Johnson will be hostess at her
Fairmount Hill home Tuesday afternoon with over 150 girls asked to call between 3 and 5
o'clock.
Greeting guests at the door will be Deboran Ann Kingan and Julie Hug. Receiving in the
drawing room with Miss Johnson will be her grandmother, Mrs. W. E. Hutchens, and sister-in-law,
Mrs. John Johnson.
Presiding at the tea urns during the afternoon will be Mrs. Edwin Armstrong, Mrs. Keith
Brown, Mrs. Vern W. Miller and .Mrs. Willard Marshall. Assisting in the dining room will be
the Misses Patricia Viesko, Mary Ana Bollinger, Barbara Crawford, Kathleen Hug, Joan Beakey,
Corinne Wade, Mrs. William Shinn and Mrs. William Duncan of Silverton.
Mother-Daughter Tea J
The Keppa Kappa Gamma alumnae will entertain with their annua,! holiday tea on Mon
day, December 29 at the home of Mrs. George Rossman on North Capitol street. The effair wi'l
honor the active girls home from Oregon- State college and University of Oregon and their
mothers. Calling hours are from 4 to 5:30 o'clock.
Mrs. Robert Drager and Mrs. Arthur Fisher will pour and assisting will be Mrs. Donald
Rassmussen, Mrs. Merle Long, Mrs. Harvey Quistad and Miss Margaret Wagner. Mrs. Roscoe
Wilson will greet the guests at the door and receiving in the living orom will be Mrs. Rossman,
jMrs. David Eason and Mrs. Gayle Finley. During the afternoon Donna Jane Macklin, violin
ist, and Frances Baum, pianist will play. Mrs. Harry U. Miller is in charge of arrangements
for the '.affair.
