Thieves with yen for Christmas
decorations continued to operate
in Salem Friday night, city police
reported. J. H. Jennings, 836 Bel
mont st., reported that a Christ
mas spray, a box of silvered fir
cones, a holly wreath and a large
red ribbon were stolen from his
residence. A large cedar wreath
was taken from the front porch
of Mrs. John Capps at 1511 N.

George Frum, son of Mr. and

st, was one of a class of 261 cadet
midshipmen to be presented with
a third mate license and commis
sioned an ensign in the naval re
serve and maritime service at the
VS. Merchant Marine academy,
Kings Point, N.Y., last week. Frum
graduated from Salem senior high
school in 1944 and entered the
U. S. merchant marine the same
year.

manufacturing plants for 1948,
under a new state law effective
January 1, will be available at the
Marion county health department
office, it was learned Friday; Per
mits are called for under a law
passed by the 1947 legislature,
which also requires Inspection of
any plant where ice is manufac
tured for human consumption.
The health department said
plants in this county would be in
spected every six months.
