Boy Scouts. Ken Farwell is scout
master of the group, but it is ex
pected Fair will take the most ac
tive part in the work.
Mt. Angel Mr. and Mrs. R.
Smith of Cedar Falls, Iowa, were
guests early this week of Mr. and
Mrs.-Frank Aman. Mrs. Smith is
a niece of Mrs. Aman.

Knoche and son have returned!
from their trip to Kansas where
they visited relatives for the last
month. They report very warm
weather while there and witnessed
a dust storm during their stay.

Waldo Hills Mrs. Dale Harris,
who has been recuperating from
a recent appendectomy at her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Brown's
home, has returned with her hus
band and small daughter to their
Cottage Grove home.

Monday. The extra week of vaca
tion was granted to give school
age children an opportunity to as
sist in the; hop harvest. All hops

in the south. Mrs. Anderson was
employed at Weiby's In Silver
ton before their marriage early
this month.
Waldo Hills The Klopfen
stein steam sorghum mill began
its annual run this week, fully
two weeks earlier than in normal
years. In 1946, the plant cooked
2000 gallons of finished sorghum,
and the entire turn-out was in
consumer hands practically as
soon as it came off the evapora
tor. The management expects to
run unil mid-October.
Lebanon The Cascade Ply
wood corporation held its first
annual service pin banquet last
week to honor more than 200 em
ployees. M. D. Tucker, president,
presented pins and engraved cer
tificates and B. V. Hancock, vice
president, was toastmaster. The
Lebanon plywood plant built by
the Evans interests in 1940 was
sold to the present company In
1943 and is the largest manufac
turing unit in this community.

ments, Mayor Elfstrom declared
the national guard recruiting cam
paign should "have the best sup
port of every citizen." . He cited
the Oregon guard's record, ("both
in peace and war," as "at the top
of the nation's list;" pointed out
the organization's "worth-while
program" and "fine pay," as well
as the benefits of training in
young man to serve his country j

The guard is open to all men 18
to 34 years' of sue. Of the na
tions total recruiting goal of 88,
888, Oregon's quota is 1,591.

was in "satisfactory" condition

Knutson was brought to the I
hospital suffering from severe
face lacerations and a large punc
ture wSund in One of his legs,
inflicted by a large piece of sterl
which was driven through it in
the collision. He was a veteran of
World War II,. and served in
Germany throughout ttfe fighting
there.
