SEATTLE, Sept. 13-(Special)-The
Shaughnessy Playoff plan
will be part of the Western Inter
national league schedule next
season, directors of the circuit
voted here today during a meet
ing. The top four teams finish
ing the 1948 season will engage
in the playoffs. The league dis
carded the playoff plan in 1939.
The 1948 playing schedule also
was discussed today and it was
decided that a few less games
would bo played during the regu
lar campaign, but the schedule
itself .would be much like the
split-week slate used in the sea
eon just finished. Also officially
okehed by the directors was the
sale of the Yakima club by Fred
Mercy, lr to a San Francisco trio.

pitching Saturday in a Coast
league baseball game at Portland,
but the Beavers maintained their
third place position in the pen
nant race. It was Albosta's second
win of the week - over Portland
and his victim was Roy Helser.
Albosta allowed 10 hits to Hel-
ser's five, but two Portland errors
aided the Stars to the win.
The two teams wind up their
series Sunday with a double bill.
