AIRPORT TRAFFIC NOTED
Salem airport officials leported
to City Manager J. L. Franzrn
that 12,585 take-offs and land
ings of local planes were counted
there during August. Total op
erations numbered 13,456, includ
ing besides local planes arrival
and departure of 248 air carriers,
14 military and 629 other itiner
ant planes,. Peak traffic was re
ported for Wednesday, August 6,
when 900 operations were noted.

Mrs. Ruby Bunnell, Marion
county public health association
officer, announced Monday that
3,129 X-ray pictures for pre-de-termlning
tuberculosis were
taken by the mobile unit stationed
at Oregon - state fair last week.
Mrs. Bessie Edwards was in
charge of the unit. Those who had
their chests X-rayed by the unit
will receive results through the
mail within the next week, Mrs.
Bunnell stated.

Bonds to Make
Debt Payment
A large pari of funds derived
from the sale of. veterans' ter
minal leave bonds in Oregon will
be used to pay brf debts, for
payments on homes and farms
and for other substantial pur
poses, officials of the state veter
ans affairs department asserted
Monday.
Only a small percentage of the
money received from the bonds
will be used for vacations and
luxuries, these officials said. It
also was noted by these officials
that a considerable part of the
total would be used for retiring
state veterans' loans previously
obtained for the purchase of
farms and homes.
