He said thousands of expired licenses are in circulation. "Every Oregon driver's license numbered between 5 R- 66,000 and 5- R-99,000 must be renewed this month," Farrell said. Any with a serial number lower than S R-66.0O0 has been void for some time. Under a 1947 legislative act ev ery permit' in the state will expire sometime during the next two years. Soviet Reports Hungary Party Chiefs Death BUDAPEST, Aug. 8 -(.- A reliable informant said today soviet authorities had reported the death of Bela Kovacs, whose alleged confession implicating former Premier Ferenc Nagy in a plot to overthrow the -Hungar ian government led to the com munist coup in which Nagy was exiled. The informant said he had seen a letter from Russian authorities reporting to the Hungarian gov ernment the death of Kovacs, former secretary general of Nagy's smallholders party. This source, who could not be quoted by name, said Soviet Min ister G. N. Pushkin had reported the death without specifying the place or time - to the . office of Acting Foreign Minister Erno Nihalyfi. A spokesman for Ni halyfi told a news conference "nothing is known" about the state of Kovacs' health.! Russian troops arrested Kovacs at his home the night of Feb. 25 on grounds that he was guilty of espionage against the soviet army. Later it was announced he had "confessed" to a plot to over throw the Hungarian government in which Nagy was implicated. The American government pro tested strongly against Kovac's arrest. The Russians refused U. S. demands for copies of the alleged deposition from Kovacs which contained the alleged confession. Bikini Ships Still Being De-Atoniized WASHINGTON, Aug. 8.-,P-The navy announced today that target ships which survived the Bikini atom bomb tests 13 months ago have arrived at west coast and Hawaiian ports and although still "unsafe" there is no danger to inhabitants. The navy said clean-up crews, working only a few hours a day, are slowly and carefully remov ing the dangerous radioactive con lamination. Talaur is about 200 miles north west of Morotai but the small ship was blown hundreds of miles from its course into the Palaus. The dispatch did not indicate how long the group was at sea. They were taken to Koror, seat of the naval, government in the western Carolines, where they were treated for "extreme star vation." Among the survivors were four small children and an expectant mother.
