Dallas Relatives of Herman
Landwehr, 62, of Dallas, who died
Tuesday at the Dallas hospital
following injuries received at the
Willamette Valley Lumber mill
have not been located, according
to Hcnkel & Bollman morticians.
Cause of the accident is unknown,
but the supposition is he was hit
by a slab of wood coming down
a chute.

of Roberts school met at the
schoolhouse Wednesday to paint
the tables and chairs used by the
lower grades. Among those work
ing were Mrs. Carl Heyden, Mrs.
Harry Eyerly, Mrs. Herbert Miller
and Mrs. Leonard Lester. Bina
Staggs and Margaret Zumsteim,
teachers of Roberts school, put
lacquer on the new text books

Seek Wage Raise
PORTLAND, Aug. 8 -UP)- The
CIO International Woodworkers
of America today demanded
wages of $15 a day for booirrmen
employed in lumber operations
west of the Cascades from Salem
to the Canadian border.
A meeting with the lumber
men's industrial relations commit
tee recessed after the demand was
presented. The union contended
the present $12.76 rate should be
upped to equalize boommen's
wages with mill and woods work
ers of comparable skill.

turn, struck Parrish in the head
inflicting a scalp laceration and
concussion.
Dallas Work has begun on
laying an aluminum roof on the
Polk county courthouse. The work
will progress rather slowly as it
will have to be done between the
sessions of circuit court. The roof
ing is being laid over the original
tile roofing which is beginning to
crumble.

Sale to Make Paper Pulp
WASHINGTON. Aug. 8 -'m -
The. U. S. forest service tonight
offered for sale 1,500,000.000
cubic feet of Alaska national for
est timber for use in manufactur
ing newsprint and paper.
The offer contemplates the
establishment of a permanent
paper manufacturing industry in
Alaska sufficient to meet 25 per
cent of this country's annual consumption.

FRUITUAND Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Clark and Ted Emick have
entertained with several trips and
dinners for Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
Atherton and Marshall of Kansas
City, Mo, They traversed the
Columbia river highway, went
deep-sea fishing at Depoe Bay,
and had a smorgasbord dinner in
Portland. Mrs. Atherton is
Emick's lister and he hadn't seen
her since 1929. The Atherton's are
making plans to locate here.
HOP PICKER DELIVERED
MARQUAM Edwin Willig had
a hop picker delivered this .week,
the first in the area. Willig said
this would eliminate trouble in
getting enough pickers to handle
the crop.

May Sella r
ALBANY Mrs. May Sellars.
72, resident of Albany for 54
years, died of a heart ailment in a
local hospital Wednesday evening
following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held from
the Fisher Funeral home at 2 o'
clock Friday with burial in Will
amette Memorial park.
Mary Ackley wa.s born on July
8, 1875, in Douglas county, Kans.
On Feb. 22, 1891, seh was married
to John Wilson Sellars at Valen
tine, Neb. In 1893 Mr. and Mrs.
Sellars came to Albany, making
the trip with horses and a wagon.
In 1941 they celebrated their gold
en wedding anniversary.
Surviving is the widower, a sis
ter, Mrs. Ella Miller and a niece,
Gladys Miller, all of Albany, and
another sister, Mrs. Cora Taylor
of Valentine, Neb.
