Week's Losses
Eased at End
NEW YORK, Aug. 2 (4VThei
sttxk ffiarket during the past week
suffered ' its sharpest tail-spin
since mid-July but rallied Thurs
day and displayed a selectively
improved tone in the final session.
Bonds were narrow and commodi
ties erratic. -
Reasons for relatively heavy
selling of securities in the fore
part of the week varied. Among
them was the belief of holders
that 10 substantially rising weeks
to a peak for the industrials since
last August called for a substan
tial technical correction.
The domestic price spiral pro
vided a cautionary argument.
There was the thought of con
sumer resistance. The cloudy ex
port situation was a .factor. Earn
ing and dividends were cheering
but there were exceptions here.
The Associated Press 60-stock
composite was off 1.5 points at
66.9 on the week, widest reces
sion since the period ended May
17. For July, though, the average
showed a net advance of 2.6
points.

Auto Industry
Story Related
One out of every six business
organizations has something to do
with the automotive industry, E.
U. Teague of the Teague Motor
company told members of the
Salem Credit association at the
luncheon Friday in the Nelson
building.
Recollections of the "sore spots"
which characterized various au
tomobile in years past as they
fought and often lort.a place in
the front line of the automobile
industry were related by Teague.
The difficulties faced, by the
Kaiser-Frazer car as it sought to
break into the post-war market
were related by the speaker.
