SGHEDB r.RIN AND BEAR IT By Lichty (Continued from page 1) The Statesman Salutes ... The Statesman joins other newspapers in the state in congratulating Amos E. Voorhies who on July 1 concluded 50 years as publisher of the Grants Pass Courier. He is the dean of Oregon publishers, greatly beloved in his home community and by fellow6" publishers. Mr. Voorhies began as a printer and worked for a time in Portland after coming out from Michigan where he learned the trade of compositor. He had experiences in the hard times of the lE0s with jobs that faded when paper folded or econ omies were enforced. It took no little courage for him with a partner to purchase the struggling Courier in 1897, but his faith and his effort and capacity were rewarded in the success he made of the venture. As a publisher Mr. Voorhies has, been progressive and just now, in association with his son, Earl, is launching an expansion program that includes a new building ' and a new press. Though fulness of days has been his portion we with for him continued health and prosperity. We note the sale of The Dalles Chronicle by Ben Litfin, its publUher since 1920. The' sale was prompted by Litfin's ill health. The purchaser and new publisher is Victor Morgan who comes from Clearwater, Florida. Oregon publishers will miss Ben Litfin whose hearty greet ing and good fellowship made him popular. He has been a alannrh rennhliran in nrtlitio and his ttaner has been a Iorce I of Jaaueltnc MclnnU. for contervative government. We hope release from duties of Uuu Deere of divorce restore to newspfcper proprietorship will bring returns in improved health. fy" nn " purchasing power. That is valid so long as most all segments of the population share In the bene fits. 'Further jacking up of wage- price levels offers bigger threat of a oust as more and more peo ple lose out In the competition for jobs or for increases in income. If a - bust of large proportions comes organized labor will be quite as much responsible as any other group. Right now Labor It self would be better off to hold the wage level and work for in creased production and lower prices. Then workers would en joy gains in real wages and not in bundles of currency of shrink ing value. Public Records CIRCUIT COURT Delta fay Hackatt VI Jam K.
