to first place in the Western In
Ui national league tonight by
sweeping a long double header
from the Salem Senator, 6 to
3,. and 16 to 1 while Bremerton
dropped two to Vancouver, 14-7
and 4-2.
The second game went only six
and one hall innings as the mid
nicht curfew halted proceedings.

The Israelite House of David's bearded baseball beaaties and
the Harlem Globetrotters' negro sharpies, two of the top exhibition
club In the country every season, tonight Untie In their are till
at Waters park at 1:15 o'clock. Unlike many of these postwar barn
storming troupes, tonight's participants are indexed as authenti
cally two of the more capable as well as highly entertalnlnr units
to Jam crowds into ball parks. Last week the Davids played before
1,264 In Spokane and 2,000 more were turned away from that tilt.
The historic Davids are managed by the veteran "Doc" Tally
who new confines his activities to coaching third base and partici
pating with George (Andy) Anderson, another oldtlme Davldite
In the comical "pepper" game. Tally and Anderson have rounded
up a classy gang of players to take eare of the run-making. On the
other side. Mgr. Paul Hardy's Trotters, steeped in novelties and
lip as well as negro talent, present a team which sports an .800

Senator Business Manager George Emigh has announced that

Dust 'Out7 in Mot Rod,
'Cycle Racing Programs
One of the big bugaboos of past racing programs at Lone Oak
track, the fairgrounds, won't be present Friday and Saturday when
Capital Post No. 9 and Maestro Jimmy Ryan present their hot rod
and motorcycle races as parts of the huge 3-day "Fourth" celebration.
The dirt racing strip, recipient
of thousands of gallons of water
for previous meets but ttill too i
dusty, will this week be treated
with the new miracle chemical
calcium chloride, used by the ar
my air forces during the war to
temper dusty air field.
Tons of the harmless but effec
tive chemical will be spread ov
er the key points of the track in
time to have it in top shape for
the races.
The hot rods, many of thtm
the same buzz buggies which pro
vided the ' fireworks during the
Memorial Day program here, will
roll on Friday, starting with time
trials at 1 p. m. Regular racejt
will start at 2:30. On Saturday,
also starting at 1 p. m., the mo
torcycles make their inaugural
Salem appearance. Top pilots of
the northwest win man both the
roadsters and 'cycles ' and up
wards of two dozen machines
will go for the gold and glory
both days. -
The speed program fits in with
Capital Post's gala 3-day cele
bration booked for the city, and
is part of the "Fourth" entertain
ment including outdoor show.
