.Arrival of a tmckload of re
inforcing steel for use in road
culverts was reported yesterday
by tfie Marion county court, to be
used in continuance of the court's
program of replacing a number
of worn and aged wooden bridges
with longer-lasting culverts. Im
mediate plans call for placing of
four new culverts on the Clover
dale cutoff from Turner and one
on the Shaft road out of Stayton.

Signing of a two-year contract
with California Packing corpora
tion's Salem plant is to be con
sidered by Calpack members of
Cannery Workers union local 670
at the regular meeting next
Wednesday at the Labor temple.
The proposed contract is reported
to be identical with that now in
effect, with an agreement that
wages and hours will be open for
