Crose Defends
Vet Benefits at
Realty Lunch
Urging his audience to analyze
fairly the picture in regard to I
veterans' benefits, Al Crose, Ore
gon veterans affairs loan, offi
cer described his work to the
Salem Board of Realtors, meet
ing Friday noon" at the Marion
hotel.
Crose said some of the bene
fits are gratuities but that most
are things earned by service, such
as compensation and hospitaliza
tion "which are real costs of
war." He urged that ex-service
men not be condemned as "taking
advantage of such laws as unem
ployment compensation since, he
said, things like that happened
before the veterans were included
in the picture.
Action by the 1947 legislative
session increased the amount
which the state may loan on vet-

June 21, for Burke Harry McKib
ben, 64. who died June 18 at his
home here, following a nine
months' illness. Services will be at

Born May 30, J 883, in Law
rence, Kans., son of Mr. and Mrs.
John F. McKibben, he was mar
ried to Alma Wardell Rawley at
Buell, Ore.. February 4, 1917. He
lived in Wheeler until 1925 when
they moved to Dallas where they
afterwards lived.
Survivors are the widow, seven
sons, Clifford, Heraldsburg, Calif.;
Burton, Gale, Keith, Morris,
Wayne, Delmar, all of Dallas;
four daughters, Fern, Gloria,
Sylvia and Barbara, all of Dallas;
two brothers, Jesse of Airlie;
Henry of Harrisburg; sister, Mrs.
James Clark of Junction City,
Kan.; one grandchild, Gail Louise
McKibben.
