, News of the death of Justice
James F. Ailshie of the Idaho su
preme court, a graduate of Wil
lamette university, reached Sa
lem Tuesday night. The 78-year-old
judge who had served on Ida
ho's highest court 24 'years died
earlier in the day at his Boise

CHARGE BRINGS FINE
A fine of $250 was meted out
in Salem justice court Tuesday
following a trial in which Robert
Charles Stackman, Vancouver,
Wash., was found guilty of driv
ing while intoxicated. A 30-day
jail sentence was suspended.
Stackman was arrested April 18
by state police on highway 99 E at
Chemawa junction.

REV. SANDERS RESIGNS
The Rev. James W. Sanders
Tuesday announced his resigna
tion as minister of Christian edu
cation at First Methodist church,
effective May 31. He said after
a vacation trip to Chicago he ex
pects assignment to a parish in
the Puget Sound district. He
came from First Methodist church
of Elgin, I1L, to Salem a year ago.

SCHOOL SAFE BROKEN
City police were investigating
Tuesday the theft of an undis
closed but small amount of money
taken over the weekend from
Richmond grade school, where the
safe was broken open. When
knocking off the safe's dial failed
to provide access to the interior,
the intruders cut a hole in the
top, police said.

arranged to pay camping fees for
24 boys to assure their attendance
at the YMCA 4 encampment this
summer during a "Kiwanis week,"
it was disclosed Tuesday by Guy

12 boys, and individual members
subscribed funds for the other 12,
