As Salem Boat House rushed construction of its second dock and other improvements on the riverfront at the foot of Chemek- eta street, some 52 boats already were being kept at the docks there and the first cabin cruiser of the season put in its appear ance this week. Willard D. Taylor, proprietor of the Boat House, Salem's only docking and waterfront boat sales and servicing establishment, es timated interest in boating this year at ' about five times that in any recent year. He said his firm alone has sold about 200 ' new boats in the past 14 months. The new cabin cruiser, first all-metal boat in this area, is the new property of Adolph C. Nel son, Salem business man. The 25- foot craft draws 30 inches - of water and will sleep four persons. In anticipation of a busy boat ing season, Taylor has com pleted a riverfront drive from Chemeketa to Court street and has undertaken the new dock con struction to increase docking ca pacity to at least 50 boats. A government dock adjacent to the Salem Boat House soon will offer hoisting facilities, Taylor has been informed.
