Mrs. Jeannette Van. Santen,
newly elected president of the
West Salem VFW auxiliary, pre
sided at the business meeting
Thursday. Committee reports were
heard and a report on the dist
rict meeting held in Dallas on
Wednesday was given by, Mrs.
Elizabeth Hoffman and the presi
dent. Mrs Avond Osborne was ap
pointed poppy chairman. Mrs.
Charlotte Curtis was a guest. -
The" post and auxiliary will
continue to hold business meet
ings on the 2nd Thursday ot each
month and a social affair on the
4th, it was announced.
" Expected in the capital next
weekend for a several weeks visit
are Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Epley of
Youngstown. Ohio, who will be
house guests of her brother-in-law
and sister, Mr. and - Mrs.
James L. Cooke. Mrs. Epley has
visited the Cookes before, but this
will be 'his first trip to Oregon.

Garden Tea
Plans Made f
Detailed plans are underway
for the garden tea to be Riven by
the Salem branch of Zonta Inter
national, at the home of Mrs.
Chester Cox May 21, as a benefit
for the Helen Yockey Memorial
Fund. This money is being raised
to completely furnish and equip
a pediatric ward in the Salem
General hospital, as a memorial
to the late Helen Yockey; an ac
tive member of the Salem Wo
man's Service club, and an ardent
worker for the hospital.
All organizations, both men and
women, are being issued invita
tions to attend the tea and view
the gardens of Mrs. Cox. Hours
have been set from 3 . until 9 o'
clock, to accomodate business peo
ple. The gardens are to be lighted
in the evening.
The entire Zonta club is act
ing as a committee to be in charge
of the affair, with Mrs. C W. Sta
cy acting as coordinator. Mrs.
Theodore Madsen, jr., president
of the club is directing the various
groups.
Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Llndgren
will leave by train Thursday for
Detroit, Mich., where they will
visit their son-in-law and daugh
ter and family, and Mrs. E. W.
Norman, Mary and Judith.
