Engaged
! Announcement is being made
of the engagement of Miss Elaine
Hamre of Salem, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Gladwin P. Hamre of
Silverton, to Robert L. Fry, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd C. Fry of
Silverton, formerly of Grants Pass.
The wedding is planned for Aug
ust. The news was first told at
a party Monday night at the Ham
re home in honor of the bride
elect's eighteenth birthday.
Miss, Hamre is a graduate of
Silverton high school and is em
ployed here at the public utili
ties commission. Her fiance served
in the navy during the war and
attended Oregon State college. He
will continue his education in the
falL

church in Woodburn was the
scene . May 1 of the wedding of
Miss Anita Bear, daughter of
Frank Bear of Wdodburn as she
became the bride of James Man
ning, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Manning of Gervais. Rev. Father
Moffenbier performed the cere
mony. The bride wore a white satin
dress made with long sleeves,
pearl beaded yoke and short
train," fingertip length veil ith
mother of pearl cap. She carried
a bouquet of pink and white
roses.
4 Miss Clara Bear, sister of the
bride and Miss Clara Manning,
sister of the groom, were brides
maids and wore identical dresses
of pale blue marquisette and satin.
They carried bouquets of pink
carnations.
Dennis -Manning was best man
for his t brother and Arnold Bear
was the other attendant LeRoy
Gardner and Charles LeBru were
ushers.
A wedding breakfast for the
wedding party was held at the
Bear home. A reception was held
from 1 to 3 o'clock In St Luke's
hall Woodburn, and a dance was
given In the K.C. hall in St. Paul
in the evening.
The young couple left for a two
weeks trip to Canada. They will
reside on a farm in tbe Parkers
ville district 5

The recreation meeting of the
Salem Business and Professional
Women's club will be held at the
chamber of commerce rooms, at
eight o'clock Friday. LuVerne
Hardwicke is in charge of ar
rangements. The program will
be a round-table play presented
by the drama club under the di
rection of Mrs. Ruth Versteeg. A
social hour will follow.
