Slow Market
Shows Losses
NEW YORK. April 28-W-It
was a two-way street for the stock
market today with the lower lane
getting" most of the traffic which
was among the slowest of the past
year. The ticker tape dozed from
the start. ' Fractional advances
ruled until around the fourth hour
when timid offerings reduced or
cancelled the majority of plus
marks. Declines of as much as 1
to 2 points in a few cases, and
minor amounts generally, pre
dominated by a shade at the close.
Transfers of 590,000 shares com
pared, with 780,000 Friday and
were a low for a full stretch since
March 24 which, in turn, was a
bottom since July 5, 1946.
The 'Associated Press 60-stock
composite was off JZ of a point
at 61.4. It was the narrowest five
hour market since last August 19.
Of 871 issues registering, 330 fell
and 301 rose.

Grain Tumble
CHICAGO, April la--Corn
paced a sharp downturn in grains
on the board of trade today, tum
bling as much as 7 rents to new
lows since March 20 in a fairly
active trade.
Selling of corn undermined both
oats and wheat, although the lat
ter grain had displayed a steady
undertone during early .trading.
Weakness in cash wheat prices
and clear weather for seeding oats
were other depressing influences
on prices.
final wheat prices were 24-
lower. May $2.58-2.57 n, corn
was 2Vi to 6H cents lower. May
1.61-1.60, and oats Hi to 3 cents
lower. May 854-85i.
Heavy country offerings of cash
grain constituted the main reason
for the break in corn.
