At a double ring ceremony at
St. Joseph's Catholic church Sat
urday at 2:30 o'clock. Miss Roselle
Marie Bell, daughter of Mr. -and
Mrs. George H. Bell of Stayton,
became the bride of Ensign Theo
dore R. Jones. USN, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Thomas Knox of Grants
Pass.
The church was decorated in
white flowers and greenery. Fath
er Gerald Linhen officiated. Reid
Shelton of Salem, sang and or
ganist was Wayne Muessey.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride was gowned in a Vic
torian period dress of white satin
with a short train, and full length
veil of French tulle edged in
French handmade lace, caught in
a wreath of orange blossoms. She
carried a white prayer book, top
ped with white roses.
Mrs. Walter H. Bell was matron
of honor. Her gown was of white
brocade and she wore a flower
bonnet and white lace mitts.
Miss Patsy Lou Knox, cousin
of the groom was bridesmaid and
also wore white. Pastel nosegays
were carried by the attendants.
Best man was Walter H. Bell
of Stayton, brother of the bride.
Robert Ratcliffe was groomsman.
Seating the guests were Gorden
Kuenke. Leigh ton Fairham and
David Geddis.
Reception Follows
Mrs. Bell, mother of the bride,
wore pale gold, .with black bead
trim and a matching hat. Her cor
sage was preen orchids. Mrs. Knox
wore a three-piece dressmaker
suit of dark blue, with an ostrich
feather hat, and corsage of pink
camellias and bouvardia.
Immedictely following the cere
mony a reception was held at the
Pi Beta Phi house.

Ronrie cut the rake, and Mrs. Ed
ward J. Beil of Stayton and Mrs.

Freele of Stayton and Alan and

The couple left for California on

in Coronario as the groom is sta

'Understanding'
The February meeting of Delta
chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, edu-
cauon Honorary lor women, was
held in Salem on Saturday. This
group comes from Yamhill, Polk
and Marion counties.
The morning business meeting
was followed by luncheon at the
Golden Pheasant and directed by
Miss Muriel Jernstedt of McMinn-

Betrothed
Now wearing a diamond on her
third finger, left hand, is Miss
Lorna Arnold, daughter of Mr.
and Mrst L. H. Arnold, whose be
trothal to Robert Wagers, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert V. Wagers,
was revealed Saturday night at a
dessert supper at the Arnold home.
The bride-elect is a graduate of
Salem high school and employed
at the Smart shop. Her fiance is a
senior at Salem high school. No
plans have been made for the
wedding.
Guests learned the news when
they were passed individual heart
shaped cakes bearing the names
of the couple. The supper table was
centered "with a bouquet of red
carnations flanked with matching
tapers. The small tables were cen
tered with gold baskets of violets.

Plan Entertainment
Plans were made Friday, by
members of the Woman's Relief
corps for entertainment of the na
tional president of the organiza
tion, Mrs. Alice F. Larson of Min
ot, N.D., who will make an of
ficial visit here in March.
The meeting Friday was held at
VFW hall and presided over by
Mrs. Blanche Stuart, new presi
dent. Past presidents will meet
Tuesday at Mayflower hall for a
covered dish luncheon at noon.
The aid society meeting will be
Feb. 13, with Lenora Hartley, 311
Richmond. A covered dish lunch
eon will preceed the election.

Mr. and Mrs. William Hill are
celebrating their 50th wedding an

day. Friends have been invited to

sacre may be gruesome but the
original report of that occur i ence
which set off the first of the Ore
gon country's Indian wars were
forceful influences in the build
ing of this state, Mrs. Carl Greve,
Portland author who writes un
der the name of Alice Wheeier,
told Salem Woman's club mem
bers and guests Saturday after
noon. Wives of legislators, presidents
of other women's organization
of the city and members of the
executive board of the Salem Bus
iness and Professional Women's
club were among the guests who
gathered in the Valentine-decorated
clubroom and later around
the lace-spread tea table where
tall tapers and a graceful arrange
ment of carnations carried fur
ther the Valentine motif. Dean
Melvin Geist, accompanied by
Mrs Geist, sang a group of num
bers. Mrs. Greve, whose novels of
the Oregon country have used
material gathered by her for her
own pleasure and for the records
of the Oregon Historical society,
poke succinctly but with pictur
esque details of the occurrences
on that November day In 1847
when Dr. Marcus Whitman, his
I wife and most of the adult em
: ployes of the mission near the
present site of Walla Walla,
Wash., were killed by Indians.
How the bringing of the

noon at 4 o'clock at the home of
Mrs. J. Lyman Steed, her son,
Wallace, will become the bride
groom of Miss Peggy Galyon,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Galyon of Olive Springs, Tenn.
Dr. Chester W. Hamblin will per
form the rites and Miss Elizabeth
Steed of Portland will play.
' For her wedding the bride will
wear a white crepe afternoon dress
made with cap sleeves and low
neckline. Her corsage will be of
red roses.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Qua mm
will attend the couple. She will
wear a navy blue dress with pas
tel blue trim and a gardenia cor
sage. Mrs. Steed will wear a pastel
aqua dress and gardenias for her
son's marriage. The bride's parents
are unable to attend.
At the wedding reception which
will follow, Mrs. Roy V. Bell will
pour and Mrs. Raymond Bond will
cut the cake. Miss Steed will as
sist. Mr. Steed and his bride will go
to southern California on their
honeymoon. For traveling she will
wear a gold suit with black acces
sories. On their return they will
be at home in Salem.
