The little girl, who weighed
seven pounda and thirteen
ounces, is the granddaughter of
Mr. and Mr. Charles S. McEl
hinny. Sr., Thomas Hill, Sr, and
Mrs. Pearl Hill.
Twin on were born to Mr. and
Mrs. William Pern (Maxine Hill)
Monday at the Salem General
hospital. The little boys have
been named John Edward and
Jerry Lee. They weighed seven
pounds and eleven ounces and six
pounds, three ounces. The twins
have a iMer, Judy, and a brother.
Jimmy. The maternal grandpar
ent are Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Hill
of Salem.

Pre-Christmas Days Are for Baking,
Candy Making: Recipes Are Selected

Ginger cookies, traditionally, are for Chrutma. and fortunately
are mane with molasses. This recipe for the cookie which children,
especially, like. ues very little sugar and a grain or two might be
subtracted firm the recipe, in case your sugar supply is really low.
Here' a recipe which came from
the moltses people, and when I Candied orange and grapefruit
tried it out claimed all but my peel is an ever popular sweet for
last 4 cup of Migar.
GINGERBREAD MEN
3 cup flour
I'j teapoon. salt-
1 teapoon cda
i teajpoon baking powder
2 teaprrn 'ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
lj tea.pon nutmeg
i cup shortening
'i cup sugar
cup molasses
1 .. beaten
holiday time. Here is a recipe
which produces a more moist
peel thm some.
CANDIED ORANGE PEEL.
Cut peel in pieces convenient
j for handling and cover with
twice its quantity of cold water.
1 Bring to a boil and cook until
' tender enough to pierce with fin
I gernail. Drain. measure peel,
I packing it lightly in the cup. 1
Add an equal quantity of sugar
(no water except what clings to
Cream sugar and shortening, peel). Boil until a thick syrup is
gradually blend in molasses, then formed Stir to make sure all peel !
g. then add dry ingredient, is covered with syrup. Let stand
Chill for awhile and roll out and overnight. Next day boil until!

moderate oen (375) on lightly when cold, stir gently from time
