Osaerae SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. caravan of 43 canvas-topped motor cars next summer will begin a trek that will take 143 men, three women -and Ure children half way across the United States. The journey, from Illinois to Utah, will be one of the 69 major events which Utah residents believe will attract the attention of -the nation as the Beehive state ob serves its centennial with a full year of celebration beginning this week. Starting at Nauvoo. III., July 14. the -automobiles, will journey 1.500 miles to Salt Lake City, fol- body join in the work as well as the fun. Life-sixed bronze figures atop a granite base will portray the Mormon leaders and their hardship-marked journey- 2 Sentences Handed Down John Kwiatkoski, indicted re cently by the county grand jury on a charge of assault with intent to kill, was sentenced to -one year in the Marion county jail but paroled Saturday by Circuit Judge E. M. Page. S. E. Malone. also indicted on a charge, of obtaining money by false pretenses was -sentenced to one jrear in the state prison. He was arrested by city police last month in alleged possession of several fraudulent checks. Kwiatkoski was arrested in late September by sheriffs deputies in connection with the alleged knifing 'of Harvey Horan, of Portland, in Meston's hopyards near St Paul. W. Mitchell Co. The purchase price was not dis- closed. The sale Includes 30,000 acres of timbered and cutover land, sawmill with an annual 50.000,000 board foot capacity, and controlling stock of the Val ley at Siletz railroad. The rail line serves many logging opera tors in the area. The purchasing corporation is headed by Herbert A.
