Counties Plan
Portland Meet
Discussions on public welfare
funds, roads, highways and land
grants will be among items of
interest at the state convention of
thw association of Oregon counties
which begins this week in Port
land, according to Marion County
Judge Grant Murphy, attending
delegate.
County Commissioners Roy Rice
and Ed Rogers also will attend
the three-day convention which
begins Monday. Judge Murphy is
a member of the convention ex
ecutive committee and Commis
sioner Rice is a member of the
resolutions committee.
The 33 county judges and their
commissioners are . expected to
draw trp a request to the federal
government asking for some sort
of payment on federally owned
land in Oregon in lieu of taxes,
Judge Murphy stated. Almost sure
to come tip at the convention will
be action on requesting transfer
of approximately 2,000 acres of
the federally owned Oregon and
California land grant Lands in the
