The VA'i regional office In Portland has informed Mr. Smith that a sampling of files for the state indicates that 1200 or more veterans are subject to removal from the subsistence rolls imme diately. Thene already are earning $173 a month If single or. $200 if. with dependents, even without count ing irv their government checks, hence are no longer eligible for subsistence under new amend ment to the G.I. bill, Mr. Smith explained About (too other veterans are expected to exceed the earning ceilings within 90 days as they progress io a higher wage scale and an additional 1000 within six months. Altogether, about 7000 ex-servicemen and women were counted recently in on-the-job training.
