In Sharp Rally
NEW YOnk, Sept. 24.-P)-The
stock market enjoyed a fast last
minute rally today with leading
steels, rails, motors and selected
industrials climbing 1 to 9 or
more points at the . best
i , The list gave a nervous perfor
mance from the start. There was
an early recovery push and a sub
sequent selloff when advances of
1 or so were trimmed or elimin
ated. ' Buying orders then piled
up In the final hour and gave
prices their sharpest swing of the
day. A little quick profit cashing
shaved most top marks at the
close. Transfers of 2.230.000 shares
compared with 2,110.000 the day
Tefore.

Grain Futures
Show Strength
CHICAGO, Sept. 24-OP)-Graln
futures were unsettled in the ear
ly trading today, but toward the
close advanced on the strength
of January wheat, which was in
demand by commission houses.
The volume of trade was not
great, but the market reacted
sharply at times. ,
A factor in the advance was an
appeal filed by millers to Secre
tary of Agriculture Anderson to
remove price ceilings on flour and
wheat products. Mills are said to
be squeezed because of lack of
control on cash wheat, which was
quoted 1 cent higher with No. 2
Hard at $2.08 a bushel, up 4 cents
a bushel compared with a week
ago.
At the close wheat was Vt to
2 higher than yesterday's fin
ish, January $2.02. Corn was Vt
lower to Vt higher, January
$1.39tt-3s. Oats were to IT
higher, November 79 v, and bar
ley was unchanged to Vt cent
rusher, November $1.43 y4.
