Stocks Lay On
Losing Margin
NEW YORK, July 2 O-1) -Stocks
generally operated on a losing
margin during markets of the past
week, cotton hit peaks for the past
23 years' and grain futures stum
bled over profit cashing.
The share division enjoyed only
one recovery session out of the
five. Reasons for relatively light
liquidation were about the same
as in the preceding week's re
action. These included uncertain
ties over the fate of the OPA,
spread of consumer resistance to
rising living costs, the cloudy
earnings outlook as the result of
Jagging industrial production and
threats of new labor rifts which
could further unsettle economic
conditions. f'
The Associated Press 60 -stock
composite for the week showed a
net loss of 1.3 points at 76.9. For
the five sessions transfers aggre
gated 4,659,660 shares against 4,-
500,790 the week before.
In the overseas section Argen
tine bonds slipped toward par as
the government announced , inten
tion of liquidating its entire dollar
debt.
Gains running to 2 points or so
were posted for bonds for Brazil,
Uruguay. Columbia, and Rio de
Janeiro. Several Chilean issues
headed the . other, way.
Sales for the week dipped to
$17,754,500, face value, from $17,
760,400 in the, preceding week.
